The event has been organized by Arkhangelsk Artist in Residence Program in the frame of Transfer North Curatorial and Critical Writing Residency.
Karolin Tampere is a visual artist and freelance curator who’s practice deals with engaging in collaborative practices taking on different roles within the field of visual arts and its many potentialities in society at large. As part of her practice she is writing for artists and about their practice. Often she is commissioning new works, and strives to present artistic practice and work with an interdisciplinary approach. She focuses on curating as an socio-political arena that has a critical responsibility which can foster alternative understandings of ecology and potentially other models of sustainability. Tampere has a BA in Visual Art from Bergen Academy of Art and Design and was part of de Appel Curatorial Program in 06/07. Since 2004 she is regularly contributing to the open ended art project Sørfinnset Skole/the nord land, a collaboration with the artists Søssa Jørgensen and Geir Tore Holm located in Gildeskål, North of Norway. During 2013 and partly 2014 she was serving as director of Konsthall C in Stockholm and initiated to co-run the institution as a four person collaboration named the Work Group / Arbetslaget. In 2003 she and Åse Løvgren initiated the collaboration Rakett (www.rakett.biz). During 2010 Rakett finalized COMMON LANDS – Allmannaretten, a exhibition project that through seminars, readers and art projects utilized the process of redevelopment of Oslo´s former industrial harbour, Bjørvika to highlight a number of issues associated with urban development, democracy, access to and the distribution of land. As a freelance curator for Art and Public Space Norway (KORO) in 2013, she was part of commissioning four large scale permanent art works at the Bergen University departement of Odontology. In 2016 and 2017, she has been a guest curator at Telemark Art Center initiating the group exhibitions FUTURUM – We Move Mountains and When Species Meet. Currently she is engaged in the longterm work of Ensayos, which is a nomadic research program, initiated by curator Camila Marambio. Ensayos has its anchor point in Tierra del Fuego, Chilean Patagonia and brings artists, scientists and locals together to address eco-political concerns. In 2014 Ensayo#4 was initiated to address the Stewardship of the sea and coastline as its concern. Together with artist Randi Nygård, Tampere is part of the core group of #4 and has expanded the research area of Tierra del Fuego to the Norwegian coastline and beyond.
